first_img2020 FANTASY RANKINGS:Quarterback | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | KickerPerhaps the biggest RB-related move of the offseason was Gurley’s release by the Rams and subsequent signing by the Falcons. Gurley went to a favorable situation, as he should dominate touches and get a good amount of receptions, and now there’s a chance for either Malcolm Brown, Darrell Henderson, or a draft pick to emerge as a sleeper in L.A. On the flip side, Gordon’s move to Denver only muddles up an already crowded situation. Both Phillip Lindsay and Gordon lose some value, while Royce Freeman falls off the radar completely. Another move that might be overlooked is Jordan Howard’s signing in Miami. Howard should get the bulk of the carries for the Dolphins, putting him in the RB2 discussion, while his defection from Philadelphia opens the door for Miles Sanders to really break out. We’re being cautious with our ranking of Sanders for now, but he’s the type of player who could gain a lot of momentum by draft season. David Johnson is also back on the RB2 radar after going to the Texans, the team that resurrected Carlos Hyde’s career last season.  Ronald Jones II could also see a lot of positive momentum through the offseason after Peyton Barber signed with the Redskins. Tampa still needs offensive line help, but as the unquestioned starter, Jones has breakout potential. Likewise, Dare Ogunbowale could also get a bump in PPR leagues given Tom Brady’s propensity for throwing to running backs. If Brady continues to show that trait despite being in a new offense, Tampa’s backs become a lot more interesting. Few positions see as much offseason rankings movement as RB. Sometimes it’s justified (what happens in the draft); other times it’s based purely on mock draft ADP and spurious reports from training camp. Either way, when fantasy owners get excited about a certain guy, it’s tough to slow down the momentum. All of that is a way of saying that these rankings will change plenty between now and August, so check back for updates. 2020 Fantasy Football RB RankingsRankings based on non-PPR scoring formatsRankPlayer1Christian McCaffrey, Panthers2Saquon Barkley, Giants3Derrick Henry, Titans4Dalvin Cook, Vikings5Nick Chubb, Browns6Ezekiel Elliott, Cowboys7Josh Jacobs, Raiders8Alvin Kamara, Saints9Aaron Jones, Packers10Leonard Fournette, Jaguars11Kenyan Drake, Cardinals12Joe Mixon, Bengals13Devin Singletary, Bills14Austin Ekeler, Chargers15Kerryon Johnson, Lions16Chris Carson, Seahawks17Mark Ingram, Ravens18Miles Sanders, Eagles19David Montgomery, Bears20Le’Veon Bell, Jets21Todd Gurley, Falcons22Marlon Mack, Colts23Damien Williams, Chiefs24James Conner, Steelers25David Johnson, Texans26Jordan Howard, Dolphins27Phillip Lindsay, Broncos28Derrius Guice, Redskins29Ronald Jones II, Buccaneers30Darrell Henderson, Rams31Raheem Mostert, 49ers32Kareem Hunt, Browns33Melvin Gordon, Broncos34Sony Michel, Patriots35Latavius Murray, Saints36Tevin Coleman, 49ers37Malcolm Brown, Rams38Alexander Mattison, Vikings39Jamaal Williams, Packers40Adrian Peterson, Redskins41Dare Ogunbowale, Buccaneers42Nyheim Hines, Colts43Matt Breida, 49ers44Tarik Cohen, Bears45James White, Patriots46Duke Johnson, Texans47Justin Jackson, Chargers48Darwin Thompson, Chiefs49Gus Edwards, Ravens50Tony Pollard, Cowboys The NFL free agency period didn’t affect our 2020 fantasy RB rankings as much as some other positions, but a few big running back moves (David Johnson’s trade, Todd Gurley’s release, Melvin Gordon’s signing in Denver) shook things up and changed some of the names throughout the various tiers. The biggest news at the top is Derrick Henry staying put in Tennessee after the Titans placed the franchise tag on him. Of course, now fantasy owners have to worry about Henry holding out until he gets a long-term deal, but at least we know that he’ll be in an ideal offense when he is on the field. Future owners of Kenyan Drake and Austin Ekeler also got some peace of mind with the departures of Johnson and Gordon, respectively. last_img read more

first_imgHUNTSVILLE, Texas — The Bearkats are Austin bound. The Sam Houston State softball team has been selected to compete in the Austin Regional of the NCAA Tournament and will face host Texas, the ninth national seed, at Charline McCombs Field Friday at 4 p.m. The game will be televised on the Longhorn Network.Texas A&M and Houston are the other two teams in the double-elimination regional. The Aggies and Cougars will play Friday at 1 p.m. on ESPN3.The Bearkats (34-21) have faced all three teams in the regional this season. Sam Houston State lost 9-1 in five innings at Texas (41-14) on Feb. 22, fell to Houston (37-17) 2-1 on Feb. 10 and 17-1 in five innings on April 30 and dropped a doubleheader to Texas A&M (28-25) 5-4 and 4-3 on March 27.“We couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to play at Texas, to open up at their place, a place we have already been this year, so we understand the environment,” head coach Garrett Valis said. “It will be pretty cool. We have some kids from that area and a lot of them have seen those kids, played against them in high school and tournament ball, so there will also be some familiarity with U of H and A&M there as well.”The Bearkats went 22-5 in league play to capture the program’s first regular-season championship since 1993 and fourth overall. Sam Houston State earned the top seed in the SLC tournament in Natchitoches, Louisiana this past week. The Kats rolled to a 7-0 victory over Southeastern Louisiana in the opening game thanks to a stellar performance in the circle by SLC Player and Pitcher of the Year Lindsey McLeod (21-8), who struck out 11. Sophomore Bailey White drove in three runs and junior Taylar Fuselier had a two-run single.Sam Houston State faced second-seeded Nicholls in two instant classics to clinch the SLC tournament championship. McLeod blanked the Colonels for nine innings May 9 before sophomore Brooke Malia launched a two-run, walk-off home run to left field off All-SLC first-team pitcher Megan Landry to advance to the championship round.Nicholls survived elimination to meet the Bearkats once again Saturday.McLeod and Landry went toe to toe in another nail-biter. The Colonels struck first with a solo home run in the top of the sixth, but junior Tiffany Thompson and Malia hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the inning to put Sam Houston State on top. McLeod shut the door on Nicholls in the seventh to cap the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record.“We have come so far,” Malia said. “We have just grown together, and we never settle for being just us. We want to be better and better, and I think we have done a great job of that.”The Bearkats only other regional appearance came in 2007 when Sam Houston State topped Texas State 1-0 in the Southland Conference championship game at Bearkat Softball Complex. The Bearkats were sent to the College Station Regional and fell to host Texas A&M 9-5 in the opener. Sam Houston stayed alive by beating Louisiana-Lafayette 2-1 before being eliminated by the Aggies 11-0.last_img read more
