The CIPD is concerned that employers are missing out on a pool of talent, following the release of the Personnel Today and Refugee Council research. CIPD chief economist John Philpott urged employers to consider employingrefugees and asylum-seekers to fill skills gaps. He said, “This survey says to the profession that there is an importantand untapped resource out there.” He believes HR professionals should adopt the Refugee Council’s code ofpractice on the employment of refugees -Êonly 40 per cent of employers actuallyuse the Refugee Council’s code. “HR needs to develop a much clearer response with regard to assessingthe qualifications of refugees,” Philpott said. “Government policy needs to change and there definitely needs to besome sort of official database of refugees looking for work. It would giveemployers much better access to their skills and qualifications.” The groundbreaking research sends out important messages to government, employers and refugee organisations, claims Patrick Wintour, director of theEmployability Forum. He said, “The Home Secretary will publish a White Paper early next yearwhich will include proposals on refugee integration and citizenship – I hope weshall see an effective strategy for training and employment.” last_img read more

first_imgSign up for our COVID-19 newsletter to stay up-to-date on the latest coronavirus news throughout New York Long Islanders will join thousands of Americans this weekend participating in “Tax March” rallies intended to discredit President Donald Trump’s claims that the public is apathetic when it comes to his returns, which he refused to reveal in the run-up to the presidential election and continues to withhold from the public.Members of the so-called Trump “Resistance” are organizing rallies across the country, including outside Internal Revenue Service (IRS) buildings in Hauppauge and Bethpage, which happen to coincide with the country’s most-scorned date of the year: April 15th, Tax Day.In the spirit of transparency, demonstrators plan to call on the president to finally produce his tax returns so the public can have a greater understanding of the self-declared billionaire’s sprawling business interests, including any financial ties to foreign countries.“Let’s send a clear message to the President: ‘SHOW US YOUR TAX RETURNS!’” reads a Facebook event for Saturday’s Bethpage rally. “The President is accountable to the American people. We care, and we’re not going away!”Demonstrations are planned across the country, including in Washington, D.C., where protesters will march from the Capitol building to the Lincoln Memorial.“You work for us,” the message to Trump on the Tax March website reads. “And we demand answers.”Throughout the presidential campaign, then-candidate Trump vacillated on the issue of releasing his tax returns: in one breath saying he’d acquiesce and in another he claimed that an IRS audit prevented him from doing so, a justification thoroughly debunked by neutral observers.Trump broke with a four-decade-old tradition of presidential candidates’ releasing their returns to the American public. The list includes President Richard Nixon, who was also under an audit but made his documents available anyway.Among some of the reasons given for concealing the documents was Trump’s assertions that Americans are not interested in his returns, that they’re so voluminous that the layman would be unqualified to come to a knowledgeable conclusion about the documents’ contents, and that only reporters have expressed interest in Trump’s returns.Despite what Trump says, many national polls show that a majority of Americans would prefer he reveal his tax returns.A Pew Research Center survey released 10 days prior to Trump’s inauguration found that 60 percent of respondents said the president has a responsibility to release them, compared with only 33 percent who said he did not.Surveys released in the final months of the presidential campaign similarly found public interest in Trump’s returns, including a Sept. 7 Fox News poll in which 60 percent of respondents said “yes” when asked: “Do you think Donald Trump is hiding something in his tax returns?” Not surprisingly, Democrats overwhelmingly agreed with that premise as opposed to little more than one-third of Republicans who were surveyed.Americans have only seen small snippets of Trump’s past tax returns. In October, The New York Times reported that Trump reported a $916 million loss on his 1995 tax returns. Such a dramatic loss could have, in theory, allowed Trump to pay nothing in federal income taxes for 18 years, the Times reported. In March, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow reported that Trump paid $38 million in federal taxes, according to his 2005 1040 form.On the legislative side, some Congressional Democrats have said they’d refuse to act on any Trump tax reform proposal until they have an opportunity to review the president’s returns to determine what impact changes to the tax code would have on his private finances. Trump has identified tax reform as a major policy objective of his early presidency. The rally in Bethpage will run from 10:30 a.m. until noon at the IRS office at 999 Stewart Ave. The Trump tax protest in Hauppauge runs from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the IRS location at 1180 Veterans Memorial Highway.last_img read more

first_img “We have been calling for severe action against Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain for years. “Better late than never.” The outspoken Tebas has been a long-term critic of both City and French champions Paris Saint-Germain –clubs who are owned by individuals with power in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar respectively. La Liga president Javier Tebas has criticised the decision to overturn Manchester City’s two-season ban from European football. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed on Monday that the club had been cleared of “disguising equity funds as sponsorship contributions” and would be allowed to enter into European competitions as normal. Back in February, the club had received a two-year ban from playing in the Champions League or Europa League following a lengthy investigation from UEFA – the governing body of European football. “We have to reassess whether the CAS is the appropriate body to which to appeal institutional decisions in football,” Tebas said on Monday, as quoted by BBC Sport’s Simon Stone. “Switzerland is a country with a great history of arbitration, the CAS is not up to standard.” The Spanish league chief has been outspoken in recent years of Manchester City’s ownership and he had welcomed the decision back in February to ban the club from Europe for two seasons, having accused them of ‘financial doping’. “UEFA is finally taking decisive action,” Tebas wrote on his Twitter account. “Enforcing the rules of financial fair play and punishing financial doping is essential for the future of football. Tebas usually courts controversy and is rarely withdrawn in his comments – he is behind the league’s attempts to play a fixture in the United States and has had a long-running feud with the Spanish FA over that issue and several other matters, including fixture scheduling. first_imgNewly appointed technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Shuaibu Amodu has told the out-of-contract chief coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi to honourably resign whatever working relationship he has with the NFF so as to give the country the opportunity to reposition its football.Speaking to journalists in Abuja yesterday, Amodu said his position on the matter was anchored on the fact that ‘a coach is as good as his last game’ hence the former national team captain having failed to qualify the country for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has no business hanging onto the job.Amodu who described the embattled Keshi as a thoroughbred professional added that retaining him as the Super Eagles coach will send a wrong signal because a precedent had been set when Samson Siasia was sacked after failing to qualify the country for the 2012 AFCON.“I am of this opinion because as a coach you are as good as your last game but only Keshi alone should decide what to do. If he has a reputation he should walk out of the job but if he does not have it, he should hang on to the job. The truth is that he has failed and to keep him is a bad precedent because when Siasia failed instantly, they told the whole country that he had failed and he left and President Jonathan could not save him. What is good for the goose should also be good for the gander. That is my personal opinion”.The former BCC Lions of Gboko tactician further advised that with the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the Equatorial Guinea 2015 AFCON, the best option for the NFF is to give the National U-23team, the Dream Team all the support to succeed because the next crop of national team players will come from there.“Let me also advice that the best thing for us is to support the Dream team 6 because that is where our next set of players will come from. I am not saying that we should throw away everybody in the Super Eagles but, that is the way to go” Amodu added. He however revealed that he will be resuming officially as the NFF technical director in the next two or three weeks.–last_img read more

first_imgWe have shown this magnificent video before of a landing in thick fog using autoland taken from the cockpit of a Boeing 757 by Hjörleifur Jóhannesson. Many readers have asked us to put it back up on the news feed so here we go.The Category 3A approach is to Oslo Gardemoen Airport. The wind is calm with visibility of just 225 meters on the runway.Autoland systems were developed to enable aircraft to land virtually blind although they can be used in all levels of visibility. However there are limits to the amount of wind component that an autoland system can handle. For instance for a 747-400 the maximum headwind is 25 kts (28mph / 46km/hr), maximum tailwind 10 kts and a maximum crosswind of 25 kts. However for the autoland to work an airport must be equipped with an appropriate Instrument Landing System (ILS) or Microwave Landing System (MLS). There are various levels of ILS capability.CAT 1 has a decision height for the pilot of 200ft (61m) and the pilot must be able to see 2400ft (55m) down the runway. For CAT 11 the decision height is 100ft (30m) and a runway visual range of 1000ft (300m). CAT111a 100ft and 660ft, CAT111b 50ft and 246ft.Most airports have only a CAT 1 capability. The first aircraft to be certified to CAT III standards was a Sud Aviation Caravelle in December 1968 followed by the Hawker-Siddeley Trident in May 1972 to CAT IIIa. It achieved CAT IIIb  in 1975.The Trident had been certified to CAT II in February 1968.In the video listen for the heights being called out by the aircarft’s systems. The 757 enters the fog at 500ft and the first lights of the runway are seeen at just 100ft above the runway.Music on the video is by Paul Schwartz, Cantilena from the Aria 2: New Horizon album.
