first_imgDear Friends,At last night’s City Council meeting, we announced some great news regarding recent grant awards to the City of Ocean City. Over the past few weeks the City has been notified of successful grant applications to federal, state and county agencies totaling nearly $1.6 million. The city was notified at the end of August of an award from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development of a Community Development Block Grant award of just over $298,000.  This grant allows the city to improve handicap access and sidewalks in defined sections of our City. The city will receive grant awards from the New Jersey Historic Trust for three projects.  The projects include $149,000 for replacement of the doors and windows on the Ninth Street entrance to City Hall; $500,000 for restoration of the Transportation Center including replacement of the turret; and $143,000 for the Life Saving Station at Fourth Street and Atlantic Avenue. We were also notified by the Cape May County Freeholders of an award of a $500,000 Open Space Grant for the construction of a skate board park on the 500 block of Asbury Avenue.  The City’s grant application indicated that the proposed project would be constructed on a portion of Block 504, Lot 1. This project will not require the Clothes Closet to relocate.I am thankful to City Council and all of the City team members who assisted in bringing these grant dollars to Ocean City.I would also like to welcome Kristen Gallagher to the City team as the new Director of Community Services.  We look forward to Kristen getting started, and I am confident she will do a great job leading this department.I hope everyone has a great weekend.Warm regards,Jay A.
