The USC first baseman was selected by the Dodgers in the 13th round of Major League Baseball’s amateur draft on Wednesday.Meeting the Dodgers’ right fielder might be awkward. In October 2013, Paulson used a gay slur in reference to Yasiel Puig on his Twitter account. It was the only instance of that slur, or any derogatory slur against Puig, on Paulson’s Twitter timeline.Image of deleted tweet from Dillon Paulson.“There’s nothing that excuses that,” Paulson said in a telephone interview. “It’s not correct. It’s embarrassing. Being young and dumb is not an excuse. I’m embarrassed. I wish it never went out. I was young, thinking it was funny. It’s obviously not funny. It’s not the way I want to represent myself. Not how I want to carry myself.”After his name was called in the draft, Paulson said he was advised by the Dodgers to go through his old tweets and delete anything that could be construed as offensive. By Wednesday afternoon, the tweet had been deleted. Paulson isn’t the first draft pick this year to get in trouble for an old tweet. On Tuesday, Colorado Rockies draft pick Ryan Rolison deleted a controversial tweet about President Barack Obama from 2012: “Well we have one hope left … if someone shoots him during his speech.”Rolison told The Athletic in a telephone interview that “it was a stupid tweet. It was immature of me. I had no idea what I was talking about.” Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Errorcenter_img “I found that and said, yeah, I don’t want that to be there,” Paulson said.A Dodgers spokesperson said the social media accounts of prospective draft picks are monitored as a general policy.
