Charity, a non government foundation which aims to serve as a conduit for receiving funds or resources from persons or organizations wishing to donate to charitable organizations in Dominica, on Monday donated a laptop computer, printer and toner supplies to the Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities.President of the Charity, Cecilia Martin who made the donation at the DAPD’s national consultation at the Public Service Union on Monday, explained that the organization members were “very moved” when it was reported that the DAPD’s office had been burglarized of its essential computers equipments.“Although of limited resources, Helping Hands Inc is pleased to make this small donation to the DAPD. As we know this organization is making a meaningful contribution to the lives of persons with disabilities in our society”.The equipment she explained were donated by a United Kingdom company, “Thames Water Authority” and shipped to Dominica free of charge by the Guest Line Limited.Helping Hands is managed by a group of volunteers who are all current of former senior civil servants or managers and has been approved by the Dominica government. Since its launching in 2009, Helping Hands has worked with several agencies and individuals both locally and internationally to provide resources and assistance where they are needed.According to Martin, “a number of local organizations have benefitted from Helping Hands Inc. through links which have been established primarily with Dominicans and friends of Dominica who live overseas. Organizations such as Operation Youth Quake, Chances, 4H youth clubs, senior citizens homes and other agencies linked to the Welfare Department and Ministry of Social Services, Community Development and Gender Affairs, including the receipt and distribution of toys for children in Dominica at Christmas”.
